Common questions

When is open enrollment for 2027 health plans in North Carolina?

Open enrollment on HealthCare.gov runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. To have coverage start January 1, 2027, you need to pick a plan by December 15, 2026.

Does it cost anything to talk to an agent?

Asking is free through Ask WNC, with no obligation. Ask the agent how they are paid; for most health plans, agents are paid by the insurance company rather than by you.

What is supplemental insurance?

Supplemental plans pay you cash when something specific happens, such as an accident, a hospital stay, cancer or a critical illness. They help with deductibles and lost income, and they work alongside your main health plan, not in place of it.

I lost my job-based coverage. Do I have to wait for open enrollment?

Usually not. Losing other coverage generally opens a special enrollment period, often 60 days, so you can pick a plan outside open enrollment. An agent can confirm what applies to you.

What happened to the extra premium tax credits?

The extra (enhanced) premium tax credits ended after 2025, so many people are seeing higher prices than before. Regular premium tax credits still exist, and an agent can check what you qualify for.

Do you help with Medicare?

Not on this page. If you are on Medicare or turning 65, call Medicare at 1-800-MEDICARE or your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIIP) at 1-855-408-1212.
